On November 25, 2019 the Office of the International Public Association “Gender Perspectives”, which is home to the national domestic violence hotline 8-801-100-8-801, hosted the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Ms. Ann Linde.
The delegation also included representatives of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden in Belarus, Ms. Christina Johannesson. Chairperson of the Board of “Gender Perspectives”, Ms. Irina Alkhovka, introduced the visitors to the hotline operation, which has been running out of our office for the past seven years and has received more than 13 000 calls.
Ms. Ann Linde expressed support for our efforts on elimination of violence against women. The parties to the meeting discussed the necessity to adopt a comprehensive legislation on domestic violence prevention in Belarus, the system of support for survivors, as well as the cooperation between the state and the civil society.
November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Worldwide people mark this day with special events and information campaigns highlighting this issue for the general public. International public association “Gender Perspectives” traditionally supports the UN call for global action “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”. It begins on November 25 and ends on December 10, Human Rights Day. Orange is the symbolic colour of the initiative.
